PARENTS
We want parents to gain a better understanding of the camp experience and what to expect. It's really important information here.
Please set aside some time to go through this whole website, even print it off, so you can read it at your leisure. We can give you more information via
this website compared to the brochure. The more you understand about how we operate the camp, the more confident you'll be when you send your child off.
Is it appropriate to send my child to camp?
Yes, more than ever. All year your child is under the stress of news and what is going on around the world. This can affect your child in ways that can only be imagined.
At The Camp of Champions, we offer a place for everyone to forget about what is going on in the world, in a stress free and insulated environment. When you're at camp, you
don't have time to worry about the outside world. Exactly what you need if you are a kid, and exactly what childhood should be.
What if my kid comes alone?
Every year 80% of our campers come on their own. Everyone has a shared interest (snowboarding, skiing and mountain biking) so campers make friends fast. A lot of the
time the campers have made friends at Vancouver Airport before the ride to Whistler.
We room campers in the dorm by same age and same gender, so your child has a buddy immediately. We also try to mix it up with the kids, so they can meet people from all
over North America, Europe and Japan. We try to put kids from opposite ends of North America together so that they will make friends with people from outside their state.
This gives campers a wider view of the world.
But you accept over 200 campers per session!
Yes, but we will limit the number of mountain bike campers per session and the ratio is one coach for every five campers. The vast majority of the remaining campers are snowboarders and skiers so you won't even see them during the day, they'll be up on the glacier.
Yes, but we have the biggest summer park in North America. The Camp of Champions has THREE TIMES the terrain of any other camp on the glacier, giving the
maximum amount space for campers to spread out and use. We have the facility, infrastructure and coaching staff to handle this high number of campers per session with ease, while
maintaining a tight coaching ratio of: 1 coach to 5 campers.
Take a look at how our numbers break down. The Camp of Champions is the LEAST crowded of all the other snowboard and ski camps.
Consider our stats:
We accept approx 200 campers total per session with 40 coaches in our huge private terrain.
- 150 are snowboarders
- 50 are skiers
- Plus a handful of campers are doing Mountain Bike Camp
To explain even further, the glacier is divided up into lanes. The Camp of Champions has 8 lanes. Most of the other camps on the glacier have one or two lanes each max and are
often shared. The number of camper per lane is an important fact along with the coach to camper ratio. This is the difference between learning a little and learning a lot.
Compare the amount of campers per lane ratio:
- 90 campers over two lanes it is 45 people per lane
- 200 campers over 8 lanes it's only 25 people per lane
When you are up on the glacier in our park, 25 people per lane feels empty. None of our facilities are ever shared with any other camp or the public. The exclusive terrain is for Camp of Champions campers only, so our park is never crowded.
