Photo I.D. and Correct Travel Documents
When entering Canada from the USA or internationally you will go through Canadian
Customs. You will need a passport or photo I.D with your original birth certificate
(passport is best). Also bring a copy of your Camp Confirmation letter just in case.
Contact the airline about their policy on unaccompanied minors traveling with them,
this is extremely important. Also, Canadian Customs may ask to see a "notarized" letter
signed by BOTH parents, giving approval for the camper to leave the USA. Contact your
local travel agent to ask their advice, if you have concerns.
Downhill Bike
Bring your bike if it's a proper downhill bike or a high performance full suspension
bike. The park will eat your bike alive if it's not rated for downhill. If you don't
want to bring your own bike or it's not built to take the punishment, ride one of ours.
Safety Equipment
Please bring your own safety equipment. We recommend riding with full body armor
as you will be crashing. If you aren't crashing you aren't learning. If you don't have
your own armor you can rent it or buy it at any of the bike shops in town.
We recommend the following equipment be used at all times while you are at the Camp
of Champions riding the Whistler Bike Park.
- Full face helmet with goggles
- Body armor - Shin, knee, hip, back, chest, shoulder and forearm protection
- Gloves
- Shoes with ankle protection
Waterproof Jacket, Extra Layers
You'll need something to keep the wind, rain and mud out. We get all kinds of weather,
so prepare for anything from cold to super hot. The best advice is just bring what you'd
normally where when you ride in the rain.
Long sleeve shirts, hoody, sweatpants and swim shorts are great for hot days. Just
bring clothing to keep you warm on chilly days / evenings and bring something for the
lake, pool or hot tub.
Sunglasses, Goggles
If you don't have good eye protection, you should get some. On sunny days you want
something for the sun, dust and dirt. On rainy days you want goggles to keep out the
rain and flying mud.
Snowboard
Bring your own board if you have one, it's always better to ride the equipment you're
used to. If you don't have your own, we have a demo room at the hotel filled with boards,
boots and bindings for you to try for FREE. If you want to buy new equipment in Whistler
there's plenty of stores in town with stuff on sale in the summer.
Snowboard Boots
Please bring your own boots if you have them. We have limited numbers and sizes for
demo, so to avoid stress, make sure you bring your own.
Skis
Bring your own skis if you have them, it's always better to ride the equipment you're
used to. You can't slide rails on the demo skis. If you don't have your own, we can help you rent a pair in town. If you want
to buy a new pair when you're here in Whistler, there's plenty of stores in town with
ski stuff on sale in the summer.
Ski Boots
Please bring your own ski boots. Take them as carry-on luggage if you can. This way,
god forbid, if the airline loses your luggage for a day, you have the most important
part of your equipment and you can still ride. We can help you out with any other replacement
items you need.
Waterproof Jacket, Pants, Gloves
You'll need something to keep the wind and rain out. We get all kinds of weather
up on the glacier, so prepare for anything from freezing cold to super hot. Your snowboard
pants don't need to be thick, most people just bring their normal winter snow clothing.
Two pairs of gloves are better than one since they're going to get soaked.
Long sleeve shirts, sweater, sweatpants and swim shorts are great for hot days. We
salt the terrain throughout the day to keep it in the best shape possible, the salt
we use actually slows the melting of the snow forming a layer of tiny ice crystals.
When you fall, it acts like a cheese grater on any exposed skin so have something long
sleeved. You'll need protection from the sun anyway. Just bring clothing to keep you
warm on chilly days / evenings and bring something for the lake, pool or hot tub.
SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN
The glacier can be like a big convection oven on sunny days. Not only does the sun
beam down on you, but it reflects off the snow. We recommend a minimum SPF of 40 and
make sure it's waterproof. Remember to re-apply sunscreen throughout the whole day,
not just once and cover all areas of exposed skin. Burning your face off sucks, you'll
be hating it if you don't pay attention to this. All it takes is 20 mins without any
sunscreen up there and your day/week could be ruined. Our coaches are there to help
and remind you but it is your responsibility. Also drink tons of water and Gatorade
up there (we supply that for you).
Goggles, Sunglasses, Helmet
If you don't have good eye protection, we don't let you on the lift. You can burn
your eyes very easily up there. Please don't bring cheap gas station specials, as these
are worse than not wearing any protection at all. Goggles are best because your eyes
are completely enclosed.
You'll need something to keep the sun off your head and/or to keep you warm. If you
don't have a helmet we have demos you can use. We recommend you use a helmet at all
times while you ride.
Skateboard
Whistler and Squamish's concrete skatepark are great. Bring your deck, pads and
a helmet as well.
Calling Card / Cell Phone
Call your parents IMMEDIATELY when you land at the airport and meet us and when you
check into the hotel, so they know you're ok. Please call them, they're worried about
you. If you have a cell phone it will work in Canada. Contact your phone company and
add Canada to your frequently called area to keep the cost down.
ATM Card
This only applies if you're comfortable with your kid having one. It's a super convenient
and safe method for spending money / dinner money. The machines dispense Canadian funds
so it's perfect for getting $20 Canadian at a time. If your child runs out of money,
this is the best method to get them more.
Dinner Money
Dinner can be approx $20-$30CDN depending on what you like. We make sure campers eat well at a restaurant so they
can't just go to McDonalds or Subway every night.
Spending Money
We usually recommend $10 CDN a day for junk/snacks etc. It's amazing how many times a night you eat and drink
after riding all day. There's a movie theatre in town and a 7-11 so you know how that goes for snacks. Every person is different, so the amount of spending money is up to you.
Sergi in the COC shop has custom Zimtstern outerwear, custom Dakine packs and gloves, custom TSG equipment and other limited edition COC items that are all super dope. Separate yourself from the masses with COC stuff that you can't get anywhere else.
What About Valuables?
The best place for valuables is at home. With all the excitement and distractions
at camp you might leave items down somewhere and forget about it. If you bring your
still / video camera please make sure it's with you at all times or in a safe place,
don't leave it lying around. The COC Dorm has a 24 hour front desk.
If you bring your iPod, have it on you at all times. Don't leave it lying around.
